St. Louis-native Yung Ro Makes A Fashionable Statement For Awareness

Posted by: Scott

Life on the streets of Saint Louis is plaqued by many negative temptations that can lead youth down a troubled path. This is an aspect of life that Yung Ro came to witnessed early on when his father went to prison. Yung Ro promised his father that he would become a better man and not travel down the same path. This provided the inspiration that led Yung Ro to found the community organization, “Runway 2 Empowerment”. Through the use of fashion, Runway 2 Empowerment provides a positive outlet in the St. Louis community that focuses on nurturing creativity while keeping teens out of trouble. Yung Ro is an example of a hip-hop artist postively affecting his community, straying away from the negative stereotypes that many associate with hip-hop music.

Besides his community involvement, Yung Ro proves through his music that you don’t have to rap just about guns and drugs for people to listen. One of the hottest artists to come out of the Midwest, the music and message of Yung Ro can now be heard on a worldwide scale. His single “Candy Gurl” can be found on Volume 1 of the Global Attack Mixtape Series.

STRAP IS LOCKED AND LOADED AND READY FOR THE GLOBAL ATTACK MIXTAPE SERIES!

Posted by: Scott

Terrell Gilstrap (born June 6, 1986),  was born in Memphis, TN, and has resided in Milwaukee, WI, Chicago, IL and

STRAP

Raeford, NC. To his friends, family and fans, he is known simply “Strap”.
Early on it became clear that he had a voice capable of capturing the hearts and imaginations of all who heard it. At the tender age of 6 months, a sleeping Strap uttered a single, sudden, sound that, if repeated could have altered the very fabric of the Atlanta Underground music scene as we know it today.

Strap’s early childhood was filled with music. His mom and her brother and younger sister immersed him in the roller skating lifestyle of the late 80′s and early 90′s in Milwaukee. Bombarded with everything from James Brown, Al Green, Frankie Beverly and Maze, to Pink Floyd, The BeeGees, Tool, Jimmy Hendrix and Parliament/Funkadelic, there’s no question about his old school flava. From the Rap /Hip Hop era his influences came from artist like Tupac, Scarface, UGK, 8Ball and MJG, Outcast, Ludacris and many others.  He became infused to the core with a love for, and an appreciation of, all things musical. He soaked in the sounds of his grandmother’s Gospel group. His spiritual play with words speak for themselves.

He began rapping and writing at a young age, but life and other inconvenient truths intervened. He managed to avoid the darkest corners of a world that beckons to a young man with big dreams and made his way to The United States Air Force. Away from the temptation of the streets and with a new world of opportunity in front of him, Strap spent the next 3 years as an Electrical and Environmental Specialist and upon discharge was hired by an elite civilian air transport company as an Avionics Supervisor…at the age of 22!

STRAP IN DEEP THOUGHT

He never lost his love of music though, and that dream was still there along with 2 key ingredients that weren’t there before…Focus and Finances! After making sure that his beloved mother had the things she needed and taking care of his own necessities (nice apartment, nice whip) he set about creating a place to pursue his passion for Rap, turning a section of his home into a recording studio.

In 2007 he recorded his 1st collaboration album (Kinfolk) with his older cousin Collin Gibson. In 2009 he was blessed to be able to record more than ever as evidenced by his unique and truly evolving style. In March of 2011, he made his debut at a Showcase Performance by ‘Stack Paypa Ent and DNA Beats’. The competition consisted of various up and coming new artists’ showcasing their talent. Strap came away win a big win…first place!

STRAP intends to underline the focus of his generation’s mission to change the popular vulgarity in the Hip-Hop/ Rap industry today and relay the messages we have all been missing.  His southern swag and smooth as silk delivery caresses the ears of listeners, even as the intricate word play he uses penetrates minds on a universal level.

John Blood Makes Music With a Message!

Posted by: Shawn Petrie

John Blood grew up listening to music with a meaning.  Artists such as Burning Spear and Bob Marley to Trinidadian artists like David Rudder, Lord Kitchener and Brother Resistance (just to name a few) were consistently heard around his home.  This music had a profound effect on him and the way he lived his life.

The insightful lyrics made him think about things like people, nature, life and the world.  Day to day stress strains that bring people down, and hurt in the world were also things that he became more and more aware of.  The music that he listened to also made him more aware of the positive things in life like, laughter, dance, expressions of the soul, and bringing people together by a single voice, beat or sound.  He has been searching for a new world message ever since.

John knows many people like himself from different lands and cultures.  He was exposed to his ancestral African culture, as well as other cultures from North America, Latin America and Europe.  His exposure to these places and cultures have not only shaped the fusion of his music but have also influenced the way in which he lives his life.  With the help of the Almighty he has been able to produce and be part of that which has brought his life to a new level.

So where does the name John Blood come from?  John is for “John Doe” (the name given to any nondescript man in the english language) and Blood (to highlight the similarities in people as apposed to their differences).  Any man is a John Blood and any woman is a Jane Blood, we are all the same.  Only our cultures are different and are what sets us apart.  As cultures fuse us more and more we are beginning to see how alike we really are.  This is what John Blood is all about, it is what he wants to show people in his music.  Join him on his music journey.  “Bless.”

Fabolous – You Be Killin Em

Posted by: Scott

FABOLOUS

Fabolous scored a bit hit, “Can’t Deny It,” right out of the gate in 2001, instantly establishing himself as a rising East Coast rap star, the song’s combination of street-savvy toughness and pop crossover appeal representative of the rapper himself. Streetwise and hardened yet young and graced with poster-boy looks, the Brooklyn rapper (born John Jackson on November 18, 1977) was one of the first East Coast MCs to embrace the bling mentality of the South as well as the gangsta swagger of the West Coast, all the while incorporating a subtle undercurrent of pop-rap into his music.

He was among the first of a new breed of New York City rappers, later and most notably to include 50 Cent, who were able to cross over well among multiple markets without losing street credential. His youth was key, but so was his bravado, and when Fabolous could balance this persona optimally and find himself a production formula to fit, commercial success resulted.

His breakthrough single, “Can’t Deny It” — (a Rick Rock production featuring a 2Pac sample and a Nate Dogg feature, as well as a catchy hook) — preceded his debut album, Ghetto Fabolous (2001), and generated quite a bit of buzz.  The album also featured production work by the Neptunes, but only managed one other single, “Young’n,” which failed to match the success of “Can’t Deny It.”

When Fabolous returned with his sophomore album, Street Dreams (2003), he capitalized on his initial renown, racking up three major hits: “Trade It All,” “Can’t Let You Go,” and “Into You” — the latter two breaking into the Top Five of Billboard’s Hot 100.  Later in 2003, More Street Dreams, Pt. 2: The Mixtape hit stores just in time for the holiday season. Comprised of various street-level recordings originally released on mixtapes, this compilation didn’t spawn any hits, but it did reaffirm Fabolous’ hip-hop credentials in the wake of his string of pop crossover singles. The following year brought with it another album, Real Talk (2004), which didn’t offer any major pop crossover hits (“Baby” was a minor one) yet did boast a monster Just Blaze production, “Breathe,” which further shored up Fabolous’ hip-hop credentials.

The young rapper took most of 2005 and 2006 off, and shortly before the scheduled release of his next album, in late 2006, he made headlines when he was shot in the leg and subsequently charged with weapons possession (police found two guns in the car that transported him to the hospital). Def Jam — which signed Fabolous after sending Musiq to Atlantic in a unique trade situation — released From Nothin’ to Somethin’ (2007). The album debuted at number one on Billboard’s Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart (number two overall) and spawned a series of singles, including the Top Ten hit “Make Me Better” featuring Ne-Yo. Two years later the hit single “Throw It in the Bag” would land on his album Loso’s Way, a loose, conceptual full-length inspired by the film Carlito’s Way. In 2010 he released There Is No Competition 2: The Grieving Music, a “concept mixtape” which aimed to bury rival rappers.

Abstract Music Ent Brings “Dilemma” From Florida to The Global Attack

Abstact Music Ent "Dilemma" Promo

Dilemma consists of two ambitious and talented artists, Jonathan “Pyro” Kelly and Michael “Mic-Lo” Sams. Dilemma’s creativity, along with their catchy, clever lyrics and hooks gives their music a unique sound. Every song is a classic and is always something you can ride to. Influenced by the south, Dilemma’s music resembles that of Outkast and Field Mob.

Pyro(Left) & Mike-Lo Back to Back

Not wanting to fit into the stereotype that southern rappers are not lyrical and don’t have anything to say, DILEMMA definitely proves all stereotypes wrong. With every song “Pyro” and “Mic-lo” deliver bar after bar of jaw-dropping, mind blowing punchlines along with substance and lyrical content unlike any other to make you think about what they said. The duo met in the summer of 2002 at Florida A&M University where they played basketball before they discovered their musical gifts. They also show other areas of talent with their production. They make up the incredible production team of Melody Militia. Together their catalog of beats is well ova 500.

Delimma

The two are very much alike but also very much different. They mesh well together on tracks and will be a force to be reckoned with in the music industry. These two up and coming rap stars are definitely a serious problem for anyone that stands in the way, hence the name DILEMMA. Now for The Global Attack Mixtapes Series starting with their single, “Take You Home”.
